Module 2 – The Definition of numbers 1-3

As the numbers are associated with our universe and humankind, so it is that the numbers of numerology, basically 0 through 12 (and the master numbers 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88) are representative of humankind.  In early numerology, the numerology numbers only included 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, and to early numerologists including Pythagoras (though it may be seen that Pythagoras himself only recognized numerological numbers as 1 through 7) they are representative of the progressive life cycle of man and the entire spectrum of human experience as indicated below:

  1. represents creation and self
  2. represents gestation and of union with others
  3. represents self-expression
  4. represents self-discipline
  5. represents recreation and change
  6. represents social awareness
  7. represents spiritual awareness, and intellectual development (creativity)
  8. represents material accomplishment
  9. represents selflessness and humanitarian kindness

The master numbers 11, and 22 were thought of as impractical idealism (11) and practical idealism (22), and the higher master numbers 33, 44, 55, etc, were not defined until much later.  We will begin our studies by looking at each number.

The One (1).
One is the aspiration of humankind, what we hope to achieve.  It is everything and all included into one.  It represents God, Human, the Sun and the heart in your physical body.  From the 1 all things start.  It is a masculine number, the aloneness, originality, and positivity.  The element is fire and from the 1 all things come (at least from this point forward, we will see later how the zero (0) holds even more power).  It represents drive, ambition and achievement.  All numbers revolve around the 1 vibration and so it comes to represent all of humanity. It is the center of all illusion and matter.  The soul extended down from spirit above, indicated by willpower.

Positive traits of 1 original, independent, leader, inventive, willpower, courage, initiative, energy, persistence, self-reliant, driven, aggressive, pioneering, powerful, masculine.

Negative traits of 1 egocentric, intolerant, bossy, tyrant, impulsive, boastful, dominant, know it all, obstinate.

Combinations with other numbers: 1 is the driving force in most relationships.  When combined with other 1’s they may butt heads, or work together brilliantly. With 2’s and 3’s they must be the leader.  With 3’s they enjoy the extravagance of being out in public and the publicity.  With 4’s there will be many headstrong issues. They get along well with 5’s, and 6’s.  With 7’s there is a big misunderstanding of intentions.  With 8’s a deep combination of power struggles, and with 9 all is well, as long as humanitarian issues are at hand. 1 gets along best with 9.

*note this is different from what other numerologists may indicate.   An in-depth study of the symbolism of the planets, numbers, tarot and other aspects have proven to me that the correct planetary order is: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Earth, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto, Neptune, 12th Planet.

The Two (2).
Two is the duality of humankind, togetherness and what we hope to receive.  It is feminine and symbolic of the Moon.  It represents the female and everything associated with feminine traits: uncertainty, change, emotions and vacillation. It represents togetherness, but it can also come to mean divorce and separation. Emotions and doubt, trouble, misery and destruction can arise, while at the same time it promotes partnership with others. Over-sensitivity may result when this vibration is heightened.  Wisdom, love, association with others, marriage and subservience are the keywords.

Positive traits of 2 .Cooperative, emotional, modest, agreeable, sensitive, modest, extrovert, patient, supportive, adaptable, responsive, passive, knowing, understanding, dualistic

Negative traits of 2 Self-absorbed, deceitful, cruel, self-conscious, timid, shy, unhappy, extremist, emotional.

Combinations with other numbers: 2 is usually the accepting and submissive of the 2. With 1 the 2 must be led, or turn over power, with 2’s nothing get’s accomplished. With 3’s a perfect combination.  With 4 there is strong work ethic.  With 5 all goes well, especially with groups.  With 6 there is emotional tension, and with 7 acceptance gives way to solutions.  With 8 as long as 2 stays passive they will make it and with 9 a great combination. 2 gets along best with 2 and 9.

The Three (3).
Three is the expression of humankind. The coming together of the one and the two, producing the destiny and the expression of the three.  It represents our own self-expression in any manner; through speech, singing, performing, or artistically. It is represented by fertility, a bountiful harvest, and exceptional luck and abundance.  It is made by combining the 1 (fire) with the 2 (water) producing steam, or air (3). It is also the 3rd card of the Tarot (the Empress) indicating fertility.

Positive traits of 3 .Imaginative, inspiring, optimistic, sociable, happy, eager, joyful, friendly, passionate, sociable, versatile, interesting.

Negative traits of 3 Vain, egotistical, promiscuous, extravagant, moody, unforgiving, gossipy, dramatic.

Combinations with other numbers: 3 is the outgoing and expressive number. With 1’s they work great together, with 2 there are issues around creativity. With 4 a powerful mental combination. With 5 they do well and are always going out.  With 6 they both try to find artistic expression. With 7 there is little in common.  With 8 it could be a winning combination and with 9 there is much to agree on. 3 gets along best with 9.

As we conclude our study of the first 3 numbers of numerology, keep in mind that we are leaving out one number (0 – zero).  Many numerologists do not include this number but I have found that it has a very special meaning.  We will spend an entire module (module 5) discussing the meaning of zero in numerology.
